Hi, My name is Gill Williams and I run Melton Sewing Centre and Sewing School with the help of a few very devoted friends, without whom I would be lost. My inspiration for sewing came from my mother, who made all of my twin sisters’ and my clothes from as far back as I can remember. I did sewing and textiles at school and loved it so much that one day, while down the street, I saw a dressmaking place and scampered up the stairs to see whether there were any trainee positions available. The lady said there were no positions at the moment, and asked if I would like to leave some details in case one came up. I gave my Dads’ phone number as a contact, and never gave it another thought. I had just turned 16 years old and never gave the word WORK a thought until one day my dad came in and said that there was a man on the phone from a dressmaking place in Shepparton who wanted to speak to me about a trainee position. I had not even told my parents that I had applied for a position there.
