At ‘Kay Way Dressmaking’ I learned the skills that have taken me into the next stages of my career. Ron and I were married in 1973 and for a wedding present he bought me my first sewing machine. I left ‘Kay Way’ and started to do some dressmaking from home. We lived in a tiny Victorian town called Murchison for 2½ years while our home was being built. In 1975 we moved into our new home in Tatura, about 13 kilometers away from Murchison. Our first son Brian was born in 1976 and the sewing was put on hold for a while until the next two sons came along. Scott was born in 1979 and Douglas in 1981. People said that I would be frustrated not having a little girl to sew for. Not so! I made all of my boys’ clothes and my own, including underwear for the entire extended family. My boys had grasshopper jeans, shirts and t-shirts. Nightshirts and underwear were a great hit and I still have requests to make the odd nightshirt for someone.
