While the boys were still young I did some sewing from home and tutoring for high school textiles students. While still making wedding dresses, stretch sewing was taking off like wild fire. T-shirts and tracksuits were the ‘in’ thing and everyone wanted to have them. I had orders coming from everywhere. I made my boys’ clothes out of the scraps. It was then that I bought my first computerized sewing machine at a local electrical appliance store.

While Douglas was a baby I was approached to teach at a local Arts Society. This was great, but after a while people wanted to do more than was possible in the allocated time. Another stage of my career was about to begin. My cousin Carmel asked me if I would be interested in teaching stretch sewing in her home if she gathered ten ladies over with their sewing machines.
